Dry Skin Help
Recently, JSJ Pharmaceuticals launched Umecta (urea, 40%) emulsion, which features the patented SanoDerm technology, for the relief of moderately to severely dry skin. According to JSJ, Umecta combines urea 40% with a physiologic lipid base rich in omega-6 essential fatty acids. A study, published in a 1997 issue of Ostomy/Wound Management, showed that topical applications of essential fatty acids (EFAs) help skin to maintain hydration and elasticity better than applications consisting of mineral oils or petrolatum. EFAs are readily absorbed into the epidermal barrier providing the patient with an elegant, non-greasy feeling. Umecta is sold in an 8-oz tube.
