New Psoriasis Treatment Launched
Medicis has launched fluocinonide (Vanos Cream, 0.1%), a new Class I topical corticosteroid approved by the FDA for the treatment of plaque-type psoriasis affecting up to 10% body surface area. The FDA approved the Vanos New Drug Application in February 2005, and the product was introduced to dermatologists in April.
The Vanos formulation offers a super-high range of potency corticosteroid in a cream alternative to ointments, gels, lotions, and foams. In a pre-marketing survey, many dermatologists noted that Vanos had a pleasant feel and easy application. In addition, Vanos provides dermatologists the convenience of once- or twice-daily dosing.
Vanos is currently the only fluocinonide in the Class I topical corticosteroid category, and it is available nationwide in 60-gram tubes and 30-gram tubes.

New Antioxidant Cream
Allergan, Inc. announced the launch of its newly formulated Prevage MD anti-aging treatment, which contains a clinically tested antioxidant shown to help correct the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and protect against environmental factors. Prevage MD contains the highest concentration (1%) of idebenone, the most potent antioxidant currently available in a skincare product.
The new formulation of Prevage MD contains an enhanced base that leaves the skin feeling immediately smoother and softer. The base includes a skin barrier-strengthening complex, which allows idebenone to work more effectively and restore skin function. The new formulation also includes green tea, a proven antioxidant.
In a recent clinical trial with 17 participants, patients found that Prevage MD reduced the signs of skin aging in just 4 weeks. Seventy-two percent of patients reported a reduction in the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, and 78% reported an improvement in skin softness and smoothness.
After 8 weeks of product use, the following were observed:
• 86% reduction in skin roughness and dryness
• 75% increase in skin firmness
• 59% improvement in overall appearance.

New Leg Vein Treatment
