New Hyaluronic Acid Fillers

Allergan, Inc. has launched hyaluronic acid dermal filler products, Juvéderm Ultra and Juvéderm Ultra Plus, which were both approved by the FDA this past June.
Juvéderm Ultra is a highly cross-linked formulation for more versatility in contouring and volumizing of facial wrinkles and folds. Juvéderm Ultra Plus is a more highly cross-linked robust formulation for volumizing and correction of deeper folds and wrinkles. Both of these products contain the highest concentration of non-animal, cross-linked hyaluronic acid of any dermal filler currently available, according to Allergan. Sustained results last for up to 6 months or longer, the company noted in a release.
Calling these fillers its “next-generation” hyaluronic acid fillers, Allergan is first releasing through what the company is dubbing “an experience trial.”
The Juvéderm experience trial is a multi-center, open-label, non-comparison trial, designed to gain relevant information on physicians’ use of Juvéderm Ultra and Ultra Plus and evaluate the persistence of and patient satisfaction with the products in daily clinical practice.
Pricing of both products will be announced to physicians via the Allergan sales force in advance of the pre-order. Allergan began accepting physician pre-orders for the products on November 1, 2006, through its nationwide sales force.

New Kinerase Multi-Vitamins

Valeant Pharmaceuticals has introduced Kinerase Multi-Vitamins, Minerals and Nutrients, which were designed by a physician and formulated especially for women with the purpose of improving beauty and health.
The formula is a proprietary blend of essential vitamins and minerals combined with ingredients specifically selected for the many benefits that are important to women’s health and beauty. One-daily regimen contains many ingredients not found in many other supplements, according to Valeant. These ingredients include 100% pure neptune krill oil (high in omega 3, 6 and 9), Teavigo (a green tea extract), Co-enzyme Q10, probiotics (Lactobacillus acidophilus for digestive health) and hyaluronic acid. Evening primrose oil, digestive enzymes, B12 and folinic acid have also been included specifically for women’s health. Tablets and fish oil capsules are coated in vanilla to avoid an aftertaste.
The regimen consists of eight pills each day — a packet of four in the morning and another packet of four pills for evening.
Kinerase Multi-Vitamins, Minerals and Nutrients are available through dermatologists’ offices, as well as Nordstrom and Sephora.

An Alternative to Microdermabrasion

Edge Systems Corporation, a developer of advanced dermatological equipment, has created a non-invasive and non-irrrating method of exfoliation with its new HydraFacial System.
Unlike microdermabrasion, the HydraFacial System exfoliates dead skin cells and extracts impurities with a vacuum-based skin abrasion tip. The system simultaneously bathes the healthy underlying skin with active serums that deeply cleanse, thoroughly exfoliate and completely hydrate, providing residual antioxidant protection.
The HydraFacial System is the only system that integrates cleansing, exfoliation, extraction and hydration simultaneously, according to the company. Its ability to hydrate the skin sets it apart from any other skin resurfacing procedures, the company added.
Edge Systems is also currently in trials to evaluate the HydraFacial System’s efficacy in treating keratosis pilaris (KP), and test results for ablating KP with the HydraFacial System have been encouraging, according to the company.

Launch of New Scalp Psoriasis Shampoo

Coria Laboratories, Ltd., has launched its 6% salicylic acid Shampoo (Salex), a topical shampoo to facilitate the removal of excess keratin in scalp psoriasis and other hyperkeratotic scalp conditions.
Prescription Salex Shampoo is the only non-steroidal prescription strength shampoo indicated for desquamation, according to Coria Laboratories. Incorporating the patented multivesicular emulsion delivery system (MVE), which delivers ingredients in a controlled-release fashion, Salex Shampoo removes scales and reduces plaques, which may enhance topical steroid effectiveness in scalp psoriasis and hyperkeratotic scalp conditions.
A pleasant-smelling product, Salex Shampoo contains humectants and conditioners to leave hair soft and manageable. It’s also safe for use on color-treated hair and is safe to use around the eyes because it has low systemic absorption and is non-sensitizing.
Salex Shampoo incorporates the patented Multivesicular Emulsion Delivery System (MVE). The MVE system represents state-of-the-art technology in the development of dermatology products. Since its introduction, MVE technology has earned significant dermatological recognition for its ability to deliver ingredients in a controlled-release fashion.

Deep Moisturizing Creams

Dermazone Solutions introduces its Celazome Hydracell facial moisturizer and Lyphazome Penetrating Moisturizing Cream. These products incorporate the company’s patented Lyphazome nanotechnology delivery system, which was originally developed to treat severe skin conditions experienced by deep-tissue burn victims. The Lyphazome delivery system delivers time-released, concentrated moisture and nutrients deep into the epidermis.
Formulated to treat chronic dry skin or acute seasonal skin dryness, these products can be used separately or together as part of a daily or cyclical all-over body moisturizing regimen.
Hydracell uses marine extract and essential oil formula to provide the face with a long-lasting solution to rejuvenate skin and eliminate redness, itchiness and flakiness. This product incorporates key bioactives, including a 9% concentration of transdermal and essential oils. Key bioactives include rose oil to reduce skin redness and inflammation, and help moisturize and retain skin moisture; red marine algae extract to nourish and revitalize; rosewood oil to promote cellular stimulation and tissue regeneration; and jojoba oil to improve skin suppleness and softness while reducing transdermal water loss. The Penetrating Moisturizing Cream is especially useful for spot-treating other areas of the body such as chapped hands, cracked heels, and rough, flaky elbows and knees. Like all Dermazone products, Hydracell and Penetrating Moisturizing Cream are gentle enough for even the most sensitive skin. n
